Visionaries of the year
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society hosted the Visionaries of the Year gala to honor Houston’s most philanthropic young professionals and their teams. The event was previously known as the Man and Woman of the Year Campaign, and over the course of a 10-week fundraising race, these visionaries raised $1.6 million-plus to support blood cancer research projects.
The New Campaign Name
LLS has evolved its fundraising campaign for the future and recognized the need for visionaries at the forefront of the campaign. Thus, the new name was chosen to celebrate the volunteers that embody qualities that are needed most.
The Houston Visionaries
The Houston Visionaries took various fundraising initiatives, tapped friends, family, and colleagues to contribute. With cocktail attire for the event, guests raised over $135,000. The highlight of the fundraising was the auctioning off of artwork from the celebrated Honored Hero Evan Pesek, which raised $17,000. Pesek, a childhood leukemia survivor, served as an inspiration for many of the candidates’ fundraising efforts. The event also honored Trace Langin, a High-Grade B-Cell Lymphoma survivor.
Winning Teams
The More Than 4 team, led by Visionary of the Year Claire Warren, raised $360,000, making them the top fundraising team. The Walkup Warriors, led by Visionary of the Year runner-up Claudia Walkup, raised $160,000. Longhorn Pledgers, led by Visionary of the Year second runner-up Billy Bray, raised $150,000.
Leadership Team
The Visionaries of the Year leadership team included Laura Lewis, Abby Lestin, Kristi Conway, Lauren Paine, Nick Conway, Stephanie Carroll, Angela Williams, Charlye Egbo, Kyle Kelin, Meredith Rice, Scott Gildea, Terie Gresham, Alyssa Parish Bublewicz, Brandi Berryhill, Jason Barron, Laura Persia, Mike Lopez, Shauna Barron, and Nnamdi Ezenwa.
Man & Woman of the Year Campaign
The Man & Woman of the Year Campaign has been a philanthropic staple of the society for more than thirty years. A group of highly motivated individuals leading the way in the fight against blood cancer have been recognized in Houston and throughout the country. This campaign now has a new name, Visionaries of the Year.
The Bottomline
The Visionaries of the Year gala was an exciting and inspiring event that brought together Houston’s most motivated young professionals and their teams. Their hard work and charitable contributions are making a significant difference in the fight against blood cancer.
