GDPR also requires the disclosure of data breaches and gives individuals the right to delete their personal data and prevent their data from being shared with third parties. Furthermore, GDPR mandates that individuals must provide their explicit consent before their personal data can be collected, processed, or transmitted.

GDPR not only affects organizations located within EU borders but also those outside EU borders, including United States healthcare providers who conduct business in the EU. The financial penalties for GDPR violations can range up to 4% of the organization’s global annual revenue or 20 million euros (whichever is higher).
