Janet M. Ewing: A Life Remembered
Janet M. Ewing, a longtime resident of Spring City, passed away on Tuesday at Seasons Hospice in Phoenixville Hospital. She was 79 and had been preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Ewing. Janet was born in Spring City to Samuel Jefferson “Jeff” and Wilhelmina (Slifer) Slaughter. She had worked at the former PHILCO Ford and Pennhurst, as well as American Machine and Tool until her retirement. Janet had many hobbies that she enjoyed, including quilting, needlepoint, cross-stitching, crocheting, and shopping on QVC. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Liberty Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
A Life Well-Lived
Janet was known for her kind and generous spirit. She enjoyed spending time with her family, who survive her: her son David Scott (husband of Kristin Ewing) of Key Largo, FL; her sisters, Nancy McCain of Spring City, Grace Collopy of Parkerford, and Judy Jones of Tyrone; and her grandsons, Matthew Ewing and Sean Fredericks. However, she was preceded in death by her son, Allan Ewing (husband of Mary Ewing), and her sister, Ruth Ann Schmidt.
Janet’s funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, located at Bridge and Church Street in Spring City. The Reverend Paul Townsend will officiate the service, and burial will follow at Limerick Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial gifts to Janet’s walk team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk. This event is held annually and will take place this year on September 29th, 2012 in Wilson Farm Park, Tredyffrin Township, Chester County.
