Matthew Perry's Surprising Bank Account Balance at the Time of His Death

Matthew Perry’s Estate and Investigation After His Death

The late Friends actor, Matthew Perry, passed away in October 2023, leaving behind his assets worth over $1.5 million in his personal account. Perry’s assets were mostly put into a trust, and in his will, he named his parents, half-siblings from his parents’ respective marriages, and other beneficiaries of the trust. However, the assets of his trust were not publicly disclosed.

Matthew Perry had openly shared his struggles with addiction, and in 2022, he released his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, which shared his journey towards recovery.

The Investigation into Perry’s Death

Shortly after Perry’s death, an investigation was reported by TMZ and other outlets. The Los Angeles police and the Drug Enforcement Administration were trying to determine the source of the ketamine found in Perry’s system. Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy at the time he passed away. However, no signs of foul play were suspected, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Perry died from the “acute effects of ketamine,” along with other contributing factors like drowning in the hot tub, coronary artery disease, and the effects of opioid-treating medication buprenorphine.

Perry’s Struggle with Addiction and His Road to Recovery

Matthew Perry had a public struggle with addiction, which he candidly shared in his memoir. In one excerpt from the book, Perry revealed the consequences of his abuse of OxyContin that resulted in his hospitalization in 2019. Perry had ruptured his colon, and doctors gave him a two percent chance of living. As Perry wrote, “I will have to live out the rest of my days knowing that my mother and others heard those words. I had realized that my greatest fear had come true, which is that I did this to myself.” After going to therapy and seeking treatment, Perry made it his mission to help others who were going through the same struggles he did.
